Plan meals, manage recipes, and track household inventory in one place.

Meals is a top-level Berg mode with three tabs: Meal Plan, Recipes, and Inventory. It brings food planning into the same shared household system as the rest of the app, with Smart Scan, Smart Recipe, and Smart Plan available on Family and Family+ for household admins.

Overview

Meals lives in Berg's top-left menu as its own mode. Inside it, the tab bar is split into:

Meal Plan: date-based planning for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Recipes: a shared household recipe library.
Inventory: pantry, fridge, freezer, and other storage tracking.

The live app includes working meal planning, recipe management, and inventory screens inside the same household system as the rest of Berg.

Meal Plan

The Meal Plan tab mirrors Berg's Calendar navigation so it feels familiar right away.

Switch between Year, Month, Week, and Day.
Use Today to jump back to the current date.
Plan meals by slot: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.
Open Day or Week views when you want the clearest planning detail.

Recipes

The Recipes tab is a shared library for reusable meals your household makes often. The plus menu includes New Recipe for manual entry and Smart Recipe for AI-assisted imports and idea generation on Family and Family+.

Search recipes by title or summary.
Filter recipes with curated tags.
Store title, summary, servings, instructions, and ingredient rows.
Tap a recipe to edit it if you are an admin.

Smart Recipe

Smart Recipe helps admins on Family and Family+ turn photos, PDFs, text, and prompts into recipe drafts.

Import a recipe from one or more recipe cards, cookbook pages, printed handouts, images, or PDFs.
Turn one or more meal photos into an estimated recipe draft when no written recipe exists.
Paste text, rough notes, or ingredients to create a structured recipe.
Generate multiple recipe ideas from a prompt and keep only the ones you want.
Reuse saved prompt templates or add one-off instructions before each run.
Review and edit titles, ingredients, steps, times, and notes before saving.

Inventory

Inventory tracks what the household already has on hand and where it is stored. The plus menu includes New Item for manual entry and Smart Scan for AI-assisted pantry and fridge capture on Family and Family+.

Filter by locations like Pantry, Fridge, Freezer, Spice Cabinet, and Garage or Overflow.
Search by item name, quantity, or location.
Store quantity text, location, and optional expiration dates.
See expired and expiring-soon states directly in the list.

Smart Scan

Smart Scan helps admins on Family and Family+ capture inventory from pantry shelves, refrigerators, freezers, spice cabinets, and bulk-storage areas using images or PDFs.

Start with Take Photo, Choose Photos, or Choose Files.
You can combine multiple photos or files in a single scan when a pantry or fridge spans several shelves or sections.
Choose whether to replace inventory, merge and update inventory, or create a shopping list.
Use optional instructions like "ignore spices" or "create a restock list for low items."
Review and edit each item, quantity, expiration date, list suggestion, and category before saving.

Raw uploads are not retained

Berg processes smart-scan uploads for the requested task and stores only the structured inventory or shopping items you confirm.

Smart Plan

Smart Plan helps admins on Family and Family+ generate meal suggestions for the next few days from a simple prompt.

Choose a planning window from 1 to 7 days.
Use saved prompt templates or one-off instructions such as "kid-friendly weeknight dinners" or "use freezer staples first."
Review suggested meal entries before anything is added to Meal Plan.
Edit or deselect individual suggestions before saving.

Send Ingredients to Shopping Lists

In Meal Plan, Berg can generate shopping candidates from recipe ingredients for the selected day or week.

Open Meal Plan in Day or Week view.
Tap the cart button.
Review the proposed ingredients.
Keep or change the suggested shopping-list destination.
Add the selected items.

Permissions

Household members can view shared meal plans, recipes, and inventory.
Admins see the add and edit controls for meal entries, recipes, and inventory items.
Smart Scan, Smart Recipe, and Smart Plan are available only to admins on Family and Family+.
Family and Family+ include household AI access for Berg AI workflows, subject to fair usage and anti-abuse limits.
Shopping-list generation follows the same shared-household model as the rest of Berg.
